We all love coming to the gym. Well, some days may be harder than others! Think about those moments when you hit a new personal best, someone pays you a compliment, or you just feel accomplished when a training session is over makes you want to come back for more! We welcome our members with open arms, and truly love when people come in to take the classes. With the CrossFit Open half way through, seeing people’s efforts and successes becomes contagious and it is truly a beautiful thing to watch. This helps not only in the gym but in our everyday lives. It becomes part of a daily routine that can sometimes be difficult to stray from!
What happens when the gym is closed or you just can’t make it that day? Do you go into panic mode? Does it ruin the rest of your day making it difficult to function? Do you just throw our hands up and say, “well, I guess I am going to be lazy today!”? Think outside the box, ladies and gentleman!
Whether you are traveling, don’t have a way of transportation, or the gym is just not open that day, do not let that stop you from reaching your goals. There are plenty of ways to get a workout in regardless of where or when.
Here are some tips for you guys at home who can’t make it or are just short on time!
1. If the weather is nice, go for a 20-30 minute walk or jog. You can get even more creative and do 20 air squats every 5 minutes. The neighbors will be entertained, it keeps you from getting bored, and you may inspire someone from afar.
2. Home workout! Can’t get outside? No problem. Set a clock for 10, 15, or 20 minutes and do a bodyweight circuit. You don’t need space or equipment.
10 minute AMRAP:
10 squat jumps
10 push ups or burpees
10 V-Sit ups
Simple, yet effective!
3. Chores! Cleaning, re-aranging, house tasks are all labor. It keeps you moving rather than sitting on the couch sobbing over not being able to go to the gym.
Now, I am not saying to quit the gym. Where else can you get that supportive atmosphere to push you out of your comfort zone? It is great that we have our NECF box to help us become better athletes, but when schedules or blocks get in the way, start to “think outside the box” to help you continue reaching goals and making progress!
Please ask if you need some helpful ideas to keep the body moving!
Hope this is helpful for some of you!
