|For those of you that don’t really know me, I hope this little blog will give you a little insight as to who I am, what I do, and what it’s like to be a female, mother, wife and CrossFit coach at the age of 40.
So, for the record, my first name is actually Margaret (and if anyone attempts to call me such, I will politely ignore you lol). I am originally from Brooklyn, but currently reside in the Bronx (but Brooklyn girl at heart). Growing up, I never EVER participated in any organized sports – although I might have wanted to. In high school, I was introduced to weightlifting…and so it began. I LOVED (still love) lifting heavy things-the heavier, the better! This is when my fitness journey began. Over the years, training became more and more important, and having a gym membership and constantly trying out a variety of “workout” classes became the norm.
Today, I’m a mother to a college freshman, as well as to a high school freshman. I’m a wife to an amazing man, who’s also a business owner. And I am a CrossFit coach and train at an incredible gym. I am the oldest (or as I’d prefer to say, “the most mature”), I’ve ever been. Yet, I feel the best that I’ve ever felt. I feel strong; I feel fit; I feel healthy; I feel energized; I feel confident; and YES, I feel sexy!
The point of this mini bio, is not so much to tell the story of who I am, but to encourage and inspire any and all individuals that are my age or “more mature” to be YOU. Never allow anyone to tell you how you’re suppose to feel at any particular age, or what you should or should not be doing at any given time in your life. Although, I do respect those that tend to often mention that they’re “tired” due to their age or that they’re “old”, etc. I can only speak for myself, and for what I do – I eat well (90% of the time), I rarely drink alcohol (by choice…not really my thing), I train regularly, and I try to focus on all the good things in life. As a result, I feel FREAKIN’ good! The best I’ve ever felt. I can move some pretty decent weight; my gymnastics skills have improved DRASTICALLY over the past few years (with NO gymnastics background AT ALL); still working on my endurance lol. And last but not least, at the age of 40, I was FINALLY able to do a STRICT RING MUSCLE-UP – which has been a major goal for me.
To sum up, only YOU can control how YOU feel or what you can or cannot do, regardless of where you come from, your background, or the amount of years that you’ve been on this earth. No one can dictate how you “should” be feeling at any age. As for me, I look forward to the many great things to come, to living more, laughing more, training more, becoming fitter and fitter and to continue with this incredible energy. I hope to be able to positively influence others to create and always have goals, and keep them! If you really and truly want somethign, go get it!! Anything is possible.
